HAPPY HALLOWEEN 2011!!!

Happy Halloween....
This is what comes to my mind when I think of Halloween-costume parties, carving jack-o'-lanterns, apple bobbing...lol, going to haunted houses/attractions, playing pranks (nice ones), telling ghost stories with flash lights & watching horror movies. Are you in the mood yet?!?!

HALLOWEEN

A gentle breeze rustling the dry cornstalks.
A sound is heard, a goblin walks.
A harvest moon suffers a black cat's cry.
Oh' do the witches fly!
Bonfire catches a pumpkins gleem.
Rejoice, it's Halloween!

The pumpkins were carved last week, but have held up pretty good.

Have a SPOOKtacular Night!!!

It wouldn't be Halloween without Candy Apples...right?!?!

Packaged Candy Apples for G's parents...hope they like them!

CCM=CORN COB MIX

This was the first time the dairy harvested CCM & it was interesting how they made it. I do know it is a process & took some time. The corn is harvested with a combine & the kernels are for keep. The remainder of stalk is thrown back out. Next, the corn is put into a grinder where it becomes a fine mix. Lastly, the CCM is put in the silo.

Lola gets sooooo much attention!

Gerard's dad is doing all the loader work.

Hopefully, one more day then we will be done with the CCM.

IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE.....

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.....

I know....I know...Christmas already!!! Don't blame me, blame the stores! It is not even Halloween yet & the stores are beginning to decorate for CHRISTMAS....here in Denmark. Halloween is starting to be popular here, but they do not have Thanksgiving. That is a American custom, but Gerard & I will celebrate Turkey Day here. When we went to Copenhagen some stores like this one were playing Christmas music & had decorations out. I absolutely love it & Christmas is my favorite holiday especially all the decorating & music!

PUMPKIN CARVING

PUMPKIN...POMPOEN...GRÆSKAR
It was pumpkin carving at our house & it was scary fun! When Gerard & I lived in New Mexico we started the tradition to carve pumpkins every Halloween. So we still continue to do so here in Denmark.

ROLLS!!!

This was my first time making dinner rolls & they turned out pretty good. Well that is what the taster's told me at least. I wanted to do the rolls a little different instead baking them side by side in a 9x13 pan. So I found a yummy recipe from one of my favorite cook books... The Pioneer Woman Cooks or go to http://www.thepioneerwoman.com/
In the fridge I happened to have fresh rosemary sprigs so I minced them up & sprinkled on top of the rolls before baking. The rosemary gave the rolls the right flavor...oh ya...plus the butter..how could I forget!! Baking the rolls in a muffin pan really was a great idea & will do that again for other roll baking.

GAME NIGHT!

Game Night with the Doldersum's!!!
Every time Wessel & Marga come to visit from Holland we have a game night. It's always fun & we all want to be the WINNERS! ha! That night Marga was the winner so....until next time....

LITTLE WESSEL

Little Wessel....
Wessel our nephew has grown so much & changes every time we see him. He brightens everyone's day! He even brightened Lola's day....he had a biscuit cookie & it dropped to the floor. Next, Lola ran off real quick to the other room where Opa was. Opa seen what Lola was eatting we did not. Then little Wessel was crying a little then we realized he didn't have his cookie & here comes Lola standing right next to him again. So they gave him another biscuit cookie & BAM it drops again to the floor....where Lola was there to clean up. One more time little Wessel gets a biscuit cookie & minutes later BAM to the floor again....now it was a game....he liked to throw it down & Lola ate the remains! We all got a big laugh out of it!

PICKING WALNUTS!

One midmorning Marga my sister in-law came over for hot tea & we chatted by the warm stove. Then we picked walnuts for a little bit. It was a little windy, but we managed! ha.

DAY TRIP TO COPENHAGEN

Every time we go to Copenhagen downtown I love looking at all the fresh flowers. The flower shops always smell so good & such beautiful colors.

During our little day trip to Copenhagen we ate lunch somewhere different this time. It was off the main streets in a little square & very nice. The little cafe where we sat had nice warm blankets so we could cover up with if needed. We enjoyed our hot teas & yummy lunch then it was back to walking around.

Lego Shop
The lego shop actually was pretty cool & brings the kid out in you. I think there were more adults in the shop than kiddos.

EFTERÅRSFERIE

EFTERÅRSFERIE = FALL BREAK
I have a week off of school & glad! This week we have family coming from Holland to visit & can't wait to see little Wessel (nephew)! Then some shopping in Copenhagen & some pumpkin carving with the family! When our teacher told us in class we have efterårsferie I didn't believe it at first! ha! We never had Fall Break when I was in school only Spring Break. So in February I will have a week off for Winter Break too....I kind of like this break thing! lol For those of you who have off for Fall Break~ENJOY

FINISHING UP SILAGE & PICKING PEARS

The corn silage is done for this year, yeah! This morning we finished up covering & putting tires on pile.

The silage is gone so now we could get to the pear tree. Pears will be on the menu for awhile....pear pie, pear crumble, pear this & pear that. The way Gerard & his dad pick pears is NOT that safe! Made me a little scared a few times. We had to pick them by hand otherwise they would hit the ground hard....splat.... then all busted up!
